Goats Bring Hope
Empower a woman and transform a family.
In villages like Dodi and Khambhale along ITNL’s Khed–Sinnar Highway, the Goatery Project has helped enhance the livelihoods of more than 400 women. Formerly landless labourers, these women were given access to a revolving fund for the purchase of goats. They were trained in goat-rearing and management practices, while timely vaccinations and insurance for the goats helped reduce the herds’ mortality rate.
As part of the initiative, the women were provided with support for the construction of community goat-sheds and greenhouses to ensure a supply of fodder for the goats. These 400 women have now been organised into 80 Joint Liability Groups and have registered themselves as the Savitribai Phule Producers Company.
